The Mets’ SNY crew came up with the “best” retort to Michael Kay.
On Wednesday afternoon, Kaye, who calls the Yankees games for the YES Network, went on a lengthy tirade on his eponymous radio show about the fact that SNY has run an ad on his show calling the Mets’ play-by-play announcer the “best booth” in Major League Baseball.
Kaye, who has strong feelings about the Yankees, took issue with the ads appearing on his show, which airs on ESPN Radio and is simulcast on the YES Network.
“So you expect me to just sit back and accept that? I think our booth is the best booth in baseball,” Kay said.
So when SNY aired the Mets’ 12-2 win over the Yankees on Wednesday to record their second straight Subway Series victory, the broadcast trio appeared to be having some fun during the lengthy rain interruption, apparently at Kay’s expense.
“I met one of the young Yankees announcers, Emmanuel Barbary, for the first time. He shares the radio job with the now-retired John Sterling,” play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen said. “So he came up and said hi, and it was great. … A very talented young announcer.”
“What does he think of our show?” asked analyst Ron Darling.
“Well, I don’t think he had any particular opinion,” Cohen replied.
But then Keith Hernandez comes on the scene and gives Kay some playful shading.
“I heard it was the best rain in the major leagues,” Hernandez said of the downpour that hit Citi Field, apparently referring to the “best booth” buzz.
“I think it’s time to play baseball,” Cohen said after some laughs.
This comes after Kay shared similar sentiments on his own X account.

Before the “best rain” fell, SNY’s main X account posted a photo of the three SNY fans with the caption, “The best booth in baseball.”
Meanwhile, Kay He spoke to The Athletic before kick-off He wanted to discuss the matter with the city’s broadcasting station.
“I’m going to come up on stage today and I’m going to give them a hug, maybe even a kiss,” she told the outlet. “I don’t think it’s awkward at all, because I’m not saying they’re bad. I’m just saying they’re the best. Well, who’s going to say that?”
