A Lakewood, New Jersey mother is facing murder charges after allegedly stabbing and drowning one of her two young children Tuesday afternoon.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday that 27-year-old Naomi Elkins has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon in the deaths of the two children.
Officers with the Lakewood Township Police Department responded to a home on Shenandoah Drive in Lakewood just before 5 p.m. Tuesday after a report of two children in cardiac arrest.
When officers arrived, they observed members of Hatzalah Medical Services administering life-saving measures to a one-year-old and a three-year-old.

Despite these efforts, both children were pronounced dead at home.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that both victims were children from Elkins.

According to prosecutors, an investigation revealed that the 1-year-old child had been stabbed and both had drowned.
“As a result of continuing investigation, it was determined that Elkins was responsible for the deaths of both children,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

Elkins was arrested without incident and taken to the Ocean County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
