Aston Martin made the announcement officially on Thursday.
In a future announcement Before the start of the Austrian Grand Prix, the team made it clear that Lance Stroll wasn’t going anywhere. Everyone expected Stroll to return in 2025, and the driver himself had recently hinted at a new contract, but on Thursday it was announced that Stroll would return with a multi-year contract extension through 2025 “and beyond.”
The news means that Aston Martin’s 2025 line-up will remain unchanged, given Alonso’s previously announced contract extension.
“I am very happy to commit to staying with the team beyond 2025,” Stroll said in the announcement. “It’s fantastic to see how much we’ve progressed over the last five years. We’ve grown a lot as a team and there’s still a lot to look forward to.”
“We are delighted that Lance has confirmed his future with Aston Martin Aramco. He has played a key role in the build of this team, with his technical feedback and dedicated work in the simulator contributing to the continued development of the car each season,” added team principal Mike Clack.
“Having both Lance and Fernando remain with the team and provide a great foundation to continue to realise our ambitions. We look forward to creating even more fantastic memories and achieving further success together.”
The news comes as Aston Martin looks to bounce back after a slow start to the 2024 F1 season. Having been a paddock favourite and threatening to Red Bull at the start of the 2023 season, the team is currently sitting in fifth place.
