Oklahoma Public Schools Superintendent Ryan Walters issued a memo declaring that state schools must “integrate the Bible into the curriculum as an instructional adjunct.”
“Effective immediately, all schools in Oklahoma will be required to incorporate the Bible, including the Ten Commandments, as an instructional aid into the curriculum for designated grade levels (e.g., grades 5-12). This mandate is consistent with educational standards approved around May 2019 and must be adhered to by all school districts.” Note From Walters to the Oklahoma State Superintendent.

“The Bible, along with the Ten Commandments, is one of the most important books historically and a cornerstone of Western civilization. The Bible will be referenced as a pertinent study of history, civilization, ethics, comparative religion, and as a book that profoundly influenced our nation’s founders and the foundational principles of our Constitution. This is not merely an educational instruction but an important step in ensuring students understand our nation’s core values and historical context,” the memo reads. “Furthermore, the Department may provide Bible instructional materials to the extent permitted to ensure uniformity of delivery.”
