Panelists on “The Source with Kaitlan Collins” Wednesday night expressed incredulity when Chris Wallace said the Trump campaign had promised former President Donald Trump would be respectful in tonight’s debate with President Joe Biden.
Wallace moderated the first debate between Trump and Biden in 2020 while still at Fox News. Trump, with his aggressive style, repeatedly interrupted Biden and Wallace during the debate. Wallace, who now works for CNN, told panelists that tonight’s debate will show whether Trump has learned from the first debate.
“The question tomorrow night is whether Trump has learned his lesson. I’ve spoken to numerous senior members of Trump’s staff who say Trump finally understands how badly he performed in the 2020 debates. Two words you don’t normally hear from the Trump campaign are ‘kindness’ and ‘respect.’ Trump intends to do both,” Wallace explained.
His comments were met with laughter and jeers from some of the other panelists.
“There are concerns about how much of a debate CNN can get away with with such heavy-handedness…”
“Well, he said he doesn’t know how the night is going to go, but he’s definitely not going to make the same mistake again,” Wallace insisted, drawing more laughter.

To significantly reduce interruptions, CNN Laid out How the microphone system works.
Each podium has two green lights. When the lights are off, it means the microphone is off. If one candidate starts speaking with the microphone off, the podium is far away so the on microphone can barely pick up what the other person is saying.
Both sides were briefed on the system and agreed to it.
There are concerns about how much of the debate will take place due to CNN’s heavy-handed attitude and anti-Trump bias from its moderators. CNN personalities have continued to display bias against Trump in the lead-up to the highly-anticipated event. For example, CNN’s Casey Hunt Asked Whether Biden shakes hands with Trump first will depend on top Biden campaign officials.
