Dating apps are to thank for Hollywood couples like Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens, David Harbour and Lily Allen, plus more

The dating world is a tough one, even for A-list celebrities.

Celebrities have taken different approaches to finding their dream partner. Many have had high-profile relationships with fellow stars, while others have dated outside the spotlight and kept their love lives fairly private.

1. Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens

The Olympic gymnast and NFL player’s relationship began in 2020 on the dating app Raya.

Biles was the first to reach out to her future lover.

“He told me that I’d slid into his direct messages,” the gymnast told The Wall Street Journal , “and I saw him and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s so cute,’ so I said hi. Then I found out he was in the Houston area, we started chatting a little bit, and we hung out a week or two later.”

Owens has since claimed that he didn’t know who Biles was when she first contacted him.

“I was literally on the app for a couple days and then she popped up out of nowhere and I was like, ‘Let me see who it is.’ I’d never really paid much attention to gymnastics so it just piqued my curiosity,” the Chicago Bears safety said on the 2023 “Pivot” podcast.

The “Stranger Things” star met his now-wife on a dating app.

In a 2022 interview with GQ Hype, Harbour detailed how the two connected virtually.

“She was in Italy at the time and we got together and had a date in Wolseley. [a restaurant]”And she was just incredible,” he added.

“It was my first time using the dating app, I scrolled to David’s profile and hit ‘approve,'” she recalled.

Harbour’s profile picture showed him in the trademark police uniform he often wears on “Stranger Things,” an outfit Allen was unfamiliar with.

“I didn’t know who he was. He was in a police uniform so I thought he was a sexy cop from a reality TV show. It was a still from Stranger Things. I’d never seen Stranger Things,” Allen continued.

The couple married in Las Vegas in September 2020, complete with an Elvis Presley impersonator.

3. Nick Kroll and Lily Kwon

Raya was yet another handy addition to comedian Nick Kroll and his now-wife Lily Kwong.

Kroll spoke about how he and Kwon connected during a 2020 episode of the podcast “You Up with Nikki Glaser.”

“I was the one who chased him first,” Brown said in the video, “but he was the one who really chased me,” she added later.

She said on the “Better Tomorrow” podcast last year that she had only made limited use of dating apps before meeting Woolard.

“I feel like I should tell a whole story about our relationship in general, but we met on a dating app,” Brown said. “And it’s crazy, I’ve had really good luck with dating apps. I met Adam a little over a week after I started using them…maybe two weeks.”

Woolard proposed to Brown on Aug. 24, 2023, at a farm in Tennessee.
