HOUSTON — The mother of Jocelyn Nangaray, the 12-year-old girl who was allegedly assaulted and killed by two illegal immigrants, was “shocked” when former President Donald Trump spoke to her 10 minutes before taking the stage at Thursday’s debate, The Washington Post has learned.
Victoria Galvan, a close friend of Alexis Nungaray who was with her grieving mother as the two spoke, told The Washington Post that Trump told her before the debate there was no one he wanted to talk to more than her.
“He said, ‘Actually I’m about to debate,’ and offered his condolences and said he’d get in touch with her,” Galvan said.
“He said… he was praying for Alexis, he was thinking about her, he wanted to reach out. He said he’d contact her in a few days… she was really… we were all in shock,” Galvan said.
After the call, Galvan said she and Alexis, who was staying with her, were talking about how surprised Jocelyn was that the former president had taken notice of her story.
Jocelyn was allegedly killed by two illegal immigrants from Venezuela, who have both been charged with murder after allegedly torturing her for two hours and then dumping her semi-naked body in the bayou.
The two suspects had illegally crossed the southern border and had been released by federal authorities several months before Jocelyn was killed.
Trump mentioned speaking with Jocelyn’s family on the debate stage and cited some high-profile crimes committed by undocumented immigrants who have been released into the country under President Joe Biden.
