‘Horizon’ star Luke Wilson’s cowboy transformation gave him massive ‘respect’ for his horse Charm

Luke Wilson’s transformation into a cowboy in Horizon: An American Saga has earned him some “respect” for his horse charm.

Wilson, who plays Matthew Van Weyden in the Kevin Costner-directed passion project, spoke about filming in an interview with Fox News Digital. The first of the four-part series hits theaters on Friday.

“I love Charm, and if Charm is out in southeastern Utah, I’m gonna miss him. See you in August,” Wilson joked.

The 52-year-old actor talked about what it was like working with an “incredible” horse trainer like Scott Perez: “You go to work with the cowboys and they try to match you with a horse that’s going to work well with you, and yeah, they’re awesome,” he said.

Wilson has “always loved animals.” For his role in Horizon, the Old School star was paired with Charm.

“I did a little horse riding as a kid, but never for this long of an amount of time,” Wilson explained.

During filming, Wilson developed a great deal of “respect” for the horses.

“But Charm could hit a target from 200 yards. But for me to come into this room and hit a target would be a challenge. So I have a lot of respect and love for Charm,” he said.

According to Deadline, Wilson was one of the first people contacted by Costner about starring in the passion project that Costner has been working on for decades.

“For me, it was one of the most important conversations of my life,” he told Fox News Digital about getting the call. Wilson called Costner “someone I have so much respect for, someone I adored as a kid, someone I looked up to as an adult.”

“To be fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work in this industry and not only work for him but with him has been very special,” he said.

Horizon star Sienna Miller says she was shocked when she got the call offering her a role in Costner’s western.

“I got a call, and my ’90s heart was still,” Miller, 42, told Fox News Digital in an interview. “It said Kevin Costner wanted to talk to me about a project he was working on. And then I got four scripts, so I thought it must be a TV show. But no. It was a movie show. And then Kevin Costner was on Zoom, and I lost my mind. Anyway, we had a great conversation. It went really well. And at the end of the conversation, he said, ‘Sienna, I have a question for you.’ And I said, ‘Yes, Kevin.’ And he said, ‘Would you like to go out West with me?’ I was so surprised.”

“I said, ‘Yeah, yeah, I’ll go. I’ll go a million times a month and come back,'” she recalled.

Costner also stars in “Horizon”He has written and directed four films.

The 69-year-old actor considered it a passion project about 30 years ago and supported the production with his own money.

All “Horizon” tetralogy Though the film depicts the American West before and after the Civil War, Costner’s narrative voice reveals a broader picture of the contemporary state of America.

“I think Kevin is telling a story that shows that there was a lot of hope in how America was formed,” “Horizon” star Sam Worthington explained to Fox News Digital. “So, [there’s] If there is this hope for the formation of America, whether in the Western or in science fiction, then perhaps there is hope for its survival.”

“A good movie explains where we are right now,” he added, “so if that’s his message, I think it’s a great message for the America we live in.”

Costner, through his deal with Fox Nation, is set to announce a new project for the platform in 2025 and previously hosted “Yellowstone: One-Fifty,” a series exploring the origins of the national park.
