Four people, including an off-duty New York Police Department officer, were killed when a car crashed into a nail salon on Long Island, authorities said Saturday.
Sources say Officer Emilia Lenhack, 30, was at a salon getting her nails done for an upcoming wedding when a suspected drunk driver crashed into the business on Grand Boulevard in Deer Park.
The Police Benevolent Association posted about her death on Facebook.
Police officials said the officer worked at the 102nd Street in Queens, where her husband is a detective.
“Our hearts are broken by the tragic passing of our 102nd Percent sister, PO Emilia Lenhack, yesterday during an off-duty incident,” the post read. “Please join us in praying for her family, friends and co-workers. Funeral arrangements will be made at a later date.”
Police said following the crash, Steven Schwalli, 64, of Dix Hill, was charged with DUI.
Police say additional charges against him are pending.
