Biden says his debate performance helped push undecided voters to his side during New Jersey fundraiser

President Joe Biden has reportedly concluded that his lackluster performance in a debate with former President Donald Trump earlier this week led more undecided voters to switch to his side.

Fox News Digital report The president made the perplexing claim while standing before donors at a fundraiser at the home of New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Saturday, where he acknowledged he could have performed better but insisted the polls were still in his favor.

“That’s what I’ve seen in terms of the support for Joe Biden. For us, Joe Biden has always been on our side and we will continue to be on his side.”

“Tonight wasn’t our best night, but we’re going to fight harder,” Biden told partygoers. “Pollars during the debate showed that we converted more undecided voters to our support than Trump did, and that’s in large part because of what he did on January 6th. People remember the bad things he did as president.”

The Blaze News previously reported that The New York Times editorial board even suggested the president should step down and let someone else take the reins come election season.

“The president emerged Thursday night as a shadow of the great public servant he is. He struggled to explain what he would accomplish in a second term. He struggled to respond to Trump’s provocations. He struggled to hold Trump accountable for his lies, mistakes and terrible plans. More than once, he struggled to finish sentences,” the editorial board said.

Despite its criticism of the president, the committee reiterated that it ultimately supports Biden over Trump.

“If the race came down to a choice between Trump and Biden, the incumbent president would be the committee’s clear choice. The risk Trump poses is that great. But given that risk, the stakes for the country, and Biden’s varying capabilities, America needs a stronger challenge to the presumptive Republican nominee. Calling for a new Democratic candidate this late in the race is not a decision to be taken lightly, but it reflects the scale and seriousness of Trump’s challenge to our nation’s values and institutions, and Biden’s inadequacy to stand up to him,” the article continued.

“The clearest path for Democrats to defeat a candidate defined by lies is to be honest with the American people, acknowledge that Biden cannot continue the campaign, and create a process to select someone more qualified to replace him and defeat Trump in November,” the editorial board wrote. “This is our best chance to protect the soul of the nation – the cause for which Biden ran in 2019 – from Trump’s malicious distortion. And it is the best service Biden can provide the country he has nobly served for so many years.”

“Trump told lie after lie,” comedian Bill Maher recently said. “Joe Biden famously loves trains, but apparently not ideas.”

Maher has disagreed with Democrats on several issues, including arguing that Biden is fit to remain in the White House for another four years.

“I don’t want to say he pooped in the bed, but his new Secret Service name is Amber Heard,” Maher joked, seemingly referencing Johnny Depp’s 2016 claim that his then-wife Heard had pooped in his bed during an argument.

But most of the backlash against Biden appears to be coming from outside his inner circle, with Democrats in Congress and across the country continuing to support the president despite concerns about his ability to govern the country for another term.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison told MSNBC host Al Sharpton that most of the “concerns” stemmed from the media.

“What I’ve seen is unity, especially in the black community,” Harrison said. “I’m black, and I’ve seen the unity in support of Joe Biden. In the black community, in families, you can say whatever you want about a member of your family, but you can’t let anyone else do that.”

“That’s what I’ve seen in terms of the support for Joe Biden. For us, Joe Biden has always had our backs and we’re going to have his back,” he added.
