President Biden’s campaign staff spent the weekend trying to do damage control and consolidate the support of a big-donor base deeply shaken by Biden’s performance in last week’s debate.
Campaign officials spoke to major Biden donors on a call on Sunday and said all of their contributions would go to Vice President Kamala Harris if Biden were to drop out of the race. Some donors have asked for their money back, according to NBC News.
Campaign Chair Jennifer O’Malley Dillon is reportedly planning to hold a conference call with more donors later on Monday.
Donors and some members of Biden’s family have also questioned whether Biden’s debate preparations and aides bear responsibility for Thursday’s disaster, allegations the White House denied in a statement.

“The President’s advisers have been with him for years, sometimes decades, watching him triumph and overcome challenges, and the President has great confidence in them,” Biden campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz said in a statement.

“It wasn’t a great night, but I’m going to fight harder,” Biden told several dozen people at a fundraiser, according to NJ.com.

“Pollutions during the debate showed that we converted more undecided voters to our support than Trump did, and a big part of that was because of what Trump did on January 6th,” he added. “People remember the bad things he did while he was president.”
