SCOTUS Immunity Ruling ‘Blueprint for How to End the Rule of Law’

Former acting attorney general Neal Katyal said Monday on MSNBC’s “The Jose Diaz-Balart Report” that the Supreme Court’s decision in President Donald Trump’s immunity case is “a blueprint for ending the rule of law.”

“What this means in practice is that next year Donald Trump or whoever the next president is can take clearly illegal conduct and label it, ‘this is an official act,’ and write that in the preface of whatever they do,” Katyal said. “And now we have to have district court hearings and so on to determine whether it really was an official act and then appeal it.”

He continued, “If you’re Joe Biden, if you’re a Democrat running for president, your path is clear. You have to oppose the Supreme Court, you have to oppose this decision. This is not America. If we want to make America great again, we have to get back to the rule of law. Unfortunately, this decision today is a blueprint for the end of the rule of law.”

“I think we need to be very careful about how this decision impacts separation of powers, the rule of law and the decision that was made last week,” Katyal added. Dobbs Etc. This court now seems to be quite out of touch with mainstream American society. For the president to pressure the Department of Justice to do certain things to benefit the election, and then to call it absolute immunity and for the court to be unable to review it, is constitutionally incomprehensible and goes against the very essence of the rule of law.
