Bill Maher advocates for different Democratic candidate

Bill Maher is advocating that President Joe Biden drop out of the presidential race and allow Democrats to choose a different candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

The comedian said his pick would be California Governor Gavin Newsom.

“But whether it’s Newsom or someone else, the Democratic Party needs to have a discussion about who their nominee should be in November. Anyone with a D in their name is essentially a tie in this race. Being a newcomer with a short attention span means ‘America isn’t tired of you,’ and that extra percentage point that translates to victory,” Maher wrote in the opinion piece. piece.

“What happened at last week’s debate was not a tragedy, but rather a blessing.”

Biden, who is considered the presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, performed poorly in last week’s debate with former President Donald Trump, who is considered the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee.

“We all age in different ways. It really depends on the case. The debate made that very clear. Trump, despite what you might think, was full of energy. Biden was full of energy,” Maher said.

“What happened at last week’s debate was a blessing rather than a tragedy. I called on Mr. Biden to resign almost a year ago and warned him that if he did not, he would forever be known as ‘Ruth Bader Biden,'” he wrote, referring to the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died in 2020. Ginsburg’s death allowed then-President Donald Trump to nominate Amy Coney Barrett to fill the vacancy.

“Since then, every time I’ve raised the idea publicly or privately, people have summarily dismissed it: ‘Yes, yes. Democrats can never replace him. It’s off the table.’ But now it’s on the table. It always should have been there,” Maher asserted.

Maher suggested an open convention would be a good thing for Democrats.

“For all the George Soros money, the Democrats could not buy the enthusiasm, engagement and attention that would come from holding an open convention, let alone in Chicago, a city famous for its Democratic convention drama,” he wrote.
