Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds and Minka Kelly knew each other through their respective artistic works before they ever met in person.
“She’s like, ‘If you share your art, I’m happy to share something, but it’s very vulnerable for me. Do you want to do this? Do you not want to do this?'” the 36-year-old “Radioactive” singer says. Called back by the people Tuesday.
Reynolds, who had recently split from his ex-wife Aja Volkman in 2022, met Kelly, 44, through mutual friends. At the time, the actress was working across the pond in England.
Their relationship was initially long-distance, so Kelly gave Reynolds a copy of her memoir, “Tell Me Everything,” in which she describes her childhood trauma, homelessness and abortion, and suggested he open up about himself.
“She was so scared to let me read to her because we’d never met, just as scared as I was to let her listen to the songs I’d written,” the “Demons” singer said.
“But we shared it and it turned out to be something really beautiful and brought us a lot closer. I think it helped us understand each other a lot more quickly.”
Reynolds now sees her and Kelly’s decision to be so vulnerable early on in their relationship as “really strange” but a “great way to meet”.
“I’ve heard so much about her life from when she was young to now, and she’s had such a difficult, colorful, beautiful life,” the “Whatever It Take” rocker said.
“To have someone read the whole thing before meeting you…I’ve never had an introduction like that before.”
Nearly two years later, Reynolds and Kelly’s relationship is still going strong, and they’re often spotted out on affectionate dates in Los Angeles, where they live.
Prior to her romance with Reynolds, the “Roommate” star was romantically linked to comedian Trevor Noah, but the pair split in May 2022.
Kelly has never been married. Reynolds, meanwhile, has been married to Volkmann, 44, for 11 years and has four children together: daughters Arrow, 11, Gia and Coco, seven, and son Valentine, four.
