The June arrest report marks the highest monthly number of migrant encounters in the history of the department, which patrols eastern New York, Vermont and New Hampshire as well as the Canadian border — and actually exceeds the annual totals for any fiscal year prior to the Biden administration.
Immigration arrests in the Swanton area have skyrocketed during the Biden administration, with Garcia reporting that arrests in April exceeded the full-year totals for FY21 and FY22.
Since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021, Swanton-area agents have arrested more than 21,000 immigrants, more than all previous years combined dating back to fiscal year 2003.
