In an online post, X owner Elon Musk accused Vice President Kamala Harris of “lying” about former President Trump’s position on a national abortion ban.

Harris posted on her Twitter account on Sunday that Trump “will ban abortion nationwide” and that she and President Biden “will do everything in our power to stop him and restore women’s reproductive freedom.”
However, her post was flagged by X in a community note, which was essentially a “fact check” that read, “President Trump has repeatedly stated that he will not sign a national abortion ban.”
Musk then reposted Harris’ post, saying, “When will politicians, or at least the interns who run their accounts, learn that lying doesn’t work on this platform anymore?”
Despite calls from some Republican lawmakers for a nationwide ban on abortion, President Trump has said he will not implement a ban and will leave abortion restrictions at the state level in place.
“I appointed three great Supreme Court justices to the Supreme Court, and they happened to vote to overturn Roe v. Wade and give it back to the states,” Trump said during his first debate with Biden on Thursday. “Now the states are working to figure it out.”
He added that he believes abortion should be allowed in cases of rape, incest and to save the mother’s life.
“We’ve taken this issue back to the states and the country is starting to come together on this issue, which is great,” he added.
Biden responded by saying he would reinstate Roe v. Wade if he was re-elected.
“The idea that states can do this is like saying, ‘We’re going to give civil rights back to the states and each state is going to have different rules,'” Biden said.
The vice president has been at the forefront of the Biden-Harris election strategy, consistently blaming Trump for the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022. During his time in the White House, Trump appointed three conservative justices to the Supreme Court, which ultimately led to a 6-3 decision overturning the 1973 decision that legalized abortion nationwide.
“Elon Musk, who is in discussions for a role in the Trump dictatorship, is using his highly paid platform to lie to his Twitter followers (yes, we don’t call it X),” the campaign claimed in a press release.
