Election Is ‘Matter of Restoring Democracy’ — ‘We No Longer Have a Functioning Court’

Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said on MSNBC’s “The Beat” on Tuesday that the Supreme Court’s decision in President Donald Trump’s immunity case means “we no longer live in a democracy because we no longer have a functioning judicial system.”

Dean said, “The court system is a vital part of the three pillars of our democracy. This court has lost its legitimacy. So, in my view, we don’t have a legitimate court system anymore. They were appointed with significant funding from the Federalist Society. Two of them are clearly corrupt and have taken money from people who have a stake in the matters that are brought before them. The rest of the justices on the Republican side are partisan Republicans who, like Justice Roberts, stole the Florida election.”

He continued, “So with this ruling, we no longer have a credible court system, and we no longer have a credible democracy. This is no longer a matter of saving democracy, it’s a matter of restoring democracy. The courts must be completely reformed. It may require a constitutional amendment, but it can be done without one. We no longer live in a democracy because we no longer have a functioning court system.”

“Can we re-evaluate and support democracy like Poland did, who got their democracy back at the ballot box? The window of opportunity is closing fast,” Dean added.
