Andrey Rublev hits himself with racket in Wimbledon meltdown

Andrey Rublev once again couldn’t contain his anger during his first round match at Wimbledon against Francisco Comesana.

The Russian player began slamming her racket against her knee after a return went out of play in the third set of the match.

The expletives were exchanged shortly after the ball went out of bounds, and Rublev smashed his racquet into his knee, causing a physical injury.

Rublev never regained his composure after that, losing the match 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (5).

After the match, Rublev said he had hit his knee with equipment because damaging the grass is prohibited at Wimbledon.

“If I could smash my racket on the floor, I wouldn’t do that.” he told reporters.“You’re not allowed to hit on grass so… I don’t know… At that moment I just couldn’t take it anymore. I needed to let my emotions out. But thank you. Everything’s fine.”

His latest violent outburst comes a month after a similar outburst during a match at the French Open in which he slammed his racket into his knee, kicked a metal bench and screamed in frustration.

Rublev admitted that his reaction wasn’t the best way to process emotions.

“Obviously today I didn’t perform as well as I did in Paris, but I still think I could have done better.” he told the Daily Mail.

“That’s not the way to do it. Of course, staying positive throughout the match is the main priority.”
