Dog cruelly abandoned on side of ‘treacherous’ Long Island highway tied to a pole with note by her side

Authorities say a heartless owner abandoned the 4-year-old dog on the side of a “dangerous” highway on Long Island on Monday.

New York State Police Capt. Timothy Gleason told The Post that several motorists called police around 5:30 a.m. after finding the poor dog tied to a light pole near Exit 21 on the Southern States Parkway.

Gleason said officers who responded found a white mastiff dog, a note and a bowl of food.

A heartless owner abandoned a four-year-old dog on the side of a “dangerous” Long Island highway on Monday.

“This is Roxy, a trained American Bull Mastiff,” the handwritten note read.

“She’s 4 years old. She’s been fed and treated for fleas, but she may still have a flea problem. Please make sure you take good care of her.”

Roxie remained calm as officers approached her and was taken to the Hempstead Animal Shelter, where a number of dog lovers have already signed up to adopt her.

“This is Roxy, a trained American Bull Mastiff,” the handwritten note read.

“The waiting list is long,” Hempstead Superintendent Don Clavin told reporters at a news conference Wednesday. News 12 Long Island.

“I’ll tell you right now, we had probably 25 people drive in from the capital region and sign up just to start the vetting process,” he said, as Roxy clicked her tongue.

When officers arrived they found a white mastiff dog, along with a note and a bowl of food.

Authorities are searching for Roxy’s owners and said they may face charges if caught.

“The Southern State Parkway is arguably one of the busiest and most dangerous highways on Long Island,” Nassau County District Attorney Ann Donnelly said in a statement.

Authorities are searching for Roxy’s owners and said they may face charges if caught.

“This is not the place to dump a four-year-old animal and just leaving a well-wish note is not enough.”

Authorities are asking anyone who owns a Roxi or has information to call 631-756-3300.
