Simone Biles says Bears allowing her husband, Jonathan Owens, to skip training camp practices for Olympics

Gymnast Simone Biles will be returning to the Olympics this year, and her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, will be there to watch in person.

As expected, the seven-time medalist won the U.S. Olympic Trials over the weekend and qualified for the tournament.

However, it was unclear whether Owens would be able to take part in the game in Paris, as NFL training camp was starting there at the same time.

However, the Bears gave Owens an excused absence for the overseas tour, Biles told USA Today.

“The Bears are actually giving him a few days off training camp, so he’ll definitely be there,” Biles said, “just for a short while.”

Though it will be a short visit, both Biles and Owens will surely remember their time in Paris as Biles looks to add to her illustrious resume, and it will also mark the first time Owens will be able to attend an Olympics in person to watch his wife compete.

Owens was unable to compete against Biles at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics due to COVID-19 restrictions, after Biles withdrew from the women’s team final and the four subsequent individual finals due to a condition known as “twisties,” in which the body and mind become out of sync.

Biles has openly admitted to battling mental barriers — twisties are no longer an option — and is not only a medal favorite at this year’s Olympics, but many believe she’ll even win gold in Paris after her dominating form over the past year.

Owens, meanwhile, signed a two-year, $4.75 million contract with the Bears and will compete for a roster spot with the third team in the NFL.

Owens appeared in 17 games for the Green Bay Packers last season, recording 84 total tackles, one fumble recovery for a touchdown, one sack and three passes defended.
