Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donald said Congress “absolutely” must investigate President Joe Biden’s mental health because of the potential national security implications, calling for “transparency” and arguing that there is currently “no clear chain of command.”
Speaking with co-host Kayleigh McEnany Fox NewsSpeaking during Wednesday’s presidential debate on “Outnumbered,” Donald addressed reports that Democrats are growing doubtful about the president’s reelection following his disastrous performance in the debate.
“Whether it’s White House staff or members of Congress, everybody is trying to protect themselves politically right now,” he said. “What the American people need to understand is this was no secret in Washington. Everybody was concerned about what was happening to Joe Biden.”
Recalling his last State of the Union address in March, Donald said many shared concerns about whether the 81-year-old Democratic president could “actually address the nation for an hour.”
While some congressional Democrats were in favor, others remained relatively silent, Donald said, “and then we all watched the State of the Union.”
“but [Biden’s] “The decline has been clear over the last few years,” he noted. “They’re trying to save themselves, so there’s been one leak after another and now this is happening. letter “House Democrats are reportedly preparing to ask Biden to end his reelection campaign.”
Asked whether a special congressional committee should be set up to investigate Biden’s mental health, including issuing subpoenas to former aides, due to concerns about national security risks, Donald said:absolutely.”
“Foreign policy is a big issue facing the country, and we have two big conflicts in the world, with Ukraine and our ally Israel, so Joe Biden and his administration are involved in all of this,” he continued.
“What has the president done?” he added, “or, better yet, what has he not done that could have avoided these conflicts altogether, saved American taxpayers money, or prevented us from becoming even more deeply embroiled in these conflicts?”
Looking back at the crisis of the 1990sDonald pressed Biden on what he does and does not know about the border: “What’s going on?”
“There’s no clear chain of command at this point because it’s not clear to anybody that the president is in power,” he noted. “So, certainly … there should be an investigation.”
“We know [Senate Majority Leader] “Chuck Schumer won’t do anything, but the House definitely should,” he added.
In a subsequent post, Donald questioned Biden’s role in the administration’s chain of command and his “disastrous” foreign and domestic policy agenda.
“The American people are entitled to transparency and Congress should investigate,” he argued.
