Darius Rucker is willing to forgive Morgan Wallen for the racist comments he made, but he can’t say the same about others in country music.
“I think Morgan has become a better person since then. I’ve known Morgan for a long time,” the former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman said. Rolling Stone Music Now Podcast, He noted that Morgan’s use of the N-word ultimately led to his “cancellation.”
“Since what happened, Morgan has tried to better himself, to be a better person and to see the world in a better light, and he has not been forgiven…Morgan still does not attend the CMAs or the ACMs.”

“They say what they want, but it’s crazy that Morgan Wallen hasn’t been nominated for entertainer of the year or anything like that, because nobody has sold more tickets than Morgan. Maybe Luke Combs would be on par with him, but they’re playing stadiums,” Rucker emphasized.
“But that’s society. It doesn’t matter what I think. People make their own opinions and they go with it. So, that’s the way it is,” he added.

In 2021, TMZ released a video of Wallen using the N-word. He received immediate backlash, had his songs removed from radio, and was dropped by his record label. “That person is definitely not who I am now,” Wallen said. After the scandal, Warren checked himself into rehab. He spoke with black leaders and pledged to donate $500,000 to black-related organizations, which he eventually fulfilled. The majority of the funds went to the Black Music Action Coalition. Warren donated $300,000 on behalf of 20 people who had mentored him during this difficult time. According to USA Today, the 20 people were given the choice of leaving the money to BMAC or donating it to a charity of their choice.

“I put myself in a really bad position. I’m like, ‘You really screwed up.’ If I was that guy, I wouldn’t have cared. I wouldn’t have apologized. If I was really what everyone says I am, I wouldn’t have done that,” the “Rise Rise Rise” singer said about righting his wrongs.
Since the allegations, Wallen has been trying to rehabilitate his image. He’s faced some setbacks, including an arrest in April for allegedly throwing a chair off the roof of a Nashville bar. He’s currently on his “One Night at a Time” tour.
