Economist editorial mocking Biden with image of walker breaks internet: ‘Goes for the jugular’

The liberal magazine The Economist stunned social media users on July 4th with a surprising new cover story that harshly criticized President Biden’s age and fitness for the presidency.

Most notably, Cover article It featured an image of an elderly person’s walker with the presidential seal emblazoned on it, along with the words “No way to run a country.”

“Oh my goodness, The Economist is on the mark,” BBC journalist Julia McFarlane posted on X on Thursday.

Biden resists growing pressure to resign

The Economist magazine drew attention on social media after publishing a cover story in its latest issue that slammed President Biden following his debate with former President Trump.

The publication’s new cover, shared on X, garnered a lot of attention on the platform, garnering more than one million views in just a few hours. In addition to the provocative cover image, a companion piece to The Economist (an editorial board column) harshly criticized Biden’s performance in the debate, saying he proved he was “unfit” to be president.

“It has been painful to watch a confused old man struggle to remember words and facts; it has been depressing to see him unable to mount an argument against a weaker opponent. But his campaign’s denial of what tens of millions of Americans saw with their own eyes is more harmful than either because it invites contempt for its dishonesty,” the committee began.

The article continues, “Democrats are right to argue that Trump is unfit to be president. But the debate and its aftermath proved that Biden is unfit too. For one, his mental decline. Biden can still appear dynamic during short, scripted appearances. But you can’t autocue a superpower, and you can’t put an international crisis on hold because the president is not doing well.”

The media also asked, “Should we entrust the nuclear codes to a man who can’t even finish one sentence about Medicare?”

Biden speaks at Virginia rally

After last week’s presidential debate, a growing number of major liberal media outlets are calling on Biden to give up on re-election. (Biden speaks at a rally in Virginia)

The editorial follows others from The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and others urging Biden to give up on reelection after last Thursday’s CNN presidential debate with former President Trump.

Van Jones says Democrats are plotting ‘how’ to replace Biden with Harris

Economist and podcaster Kip Heliage posted: “The Economist is a 100% globalist state-run publication. When The Economist attacks its fellow citizens it’s finished.”

Libs, from the TikTok account X, posted: “Cover of The Economist. Seriously.”

In a separate post, the conservative influencer slammed The Economist, a longtime Biden advocate, for publishing the article.

“The Economist was complicit in the cover-up. Biden has been a dim-witted old man for years. They pretend to be shocked by it and the cover-up. They knew all along and were complicit in the cover-up.”

Popular conservative account End Wokeness pointed out that the media was a little late in realizing this.

“Economists wake up more than four years late,” the account wrote.

“The Economist cover! Everyone’s attacking Bad Joe!” said Alex Bruszewicz, a pro-Trump digital strategist.

Time editor-in-chief Ian Bremmer commented on the magazine’s cover, calling it “patronizing democracy by economists.”

“Was The Economist reporting on Biden’s condition before the debate when it was as clear as it is now?” asked Seth Dillon of the Babylon Bee.
