The chairman of a Washington state school board wants to encourage schools to take a stand in defense of girls’ sports.
“The argument that’s often made is that by having boys and men participate in girls’ sports, it’s really inclusive, but it’s actually exclusive, because we’re currently excluding girls and women,” Kennewick School Board Chairman Gabe Galbraith told Fox News Digital.

“WHEREFORE, DOES the Kennewick School District Board of Trustees strongly support competitive fairness and student safety. DOES the Kennewick School District Board of Trustees further strongly affirm that ‘sex’ is defined as biological male or biological female assigned at birth and is an immutable characteristic that cannot be changed, fluidized, or altered,” the resolution states.

It continued, “Be it further resolved that the Kennewick School District Board of Trustees strongly affirms that biological males should not participate in biological female sports, that inherent biological differences and capabilities exist between biological males and biological females, and is committed to protecting women’s sports.”
The resolution was passed in June after a transgender runner won the girls’ 400-meter race at the Washington High School Activities Association (WIAA) track and field championships.
The idea for the resolution came about after President Biden revised Title IX in April, but Galbraith acknowledged that the athletics conference influenced the timing of the resolution’s release.

“Too many people sit on the sidelines and don’t voice their concerns, so we decided to take a stand. We put together this resolution and passed it last week at our local school board. We’re the first school board in Washington state to take a stand against this, and hopefully many other school boards will join us and we can bring about some change in the state,” Galbraith said.
Mr Galbraith said he had received support from local residents and city councillors since the resolution was passed, and hoped it would “pave the way for others to get involved and follow suit” and inspire real change.
“They told us it would never happen in your state, never happen. And it did. And we were able to put out a resolution and oppose it, which essentially just says our board doesn’t support it. We need to work with legislators and others to make some change to figure out what the next steps are,” Galbraith said.

According to Washington State Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) policy, all athletes will compete in the program “consistent with their gender identity or the gender they most consistently express,” but the association does not require athletes to participate in hormone therapy or use hormone blockers.
