Boxer Ryan Garcia has apologized for making racist comments on social media and said he is going to rehab.

The WBC later announced that Garcia had been “banned” from the organization’s activities, but it’s unclear what that means specifically, as Garcia was suspended for one year in June for testing positive for drugs following his bout with Devin Haney.

“I grew up in a neighborhood where everyone uttered words that I have now removed from my vocabulary,” Garcia wrote.
“I have supported many Black men and the Black community. I am not offended by the anger and I sincerely apologize if I have hurt or offended anyone. However, my pain deserves to be felt. Black and brown people have always stood together and always will.”
“I’m a little bit lighter than you, but I love you and I love black children enough to have sex for them. I was actually against black-on-black crime. [Again] sorry.”
In a comment on the post, Garcia said he was heading to rehab.
From the outside, Garcia’s behavior in recent months has appeared erratic.
But after beating Haney (and before his positive PED test), it seemed like he might have been acting all cocky to sell the fight and let his opponent’s guard down.
Garcia also included a statement in his Instagram post claiming he is not racist and that his comments had been taken out of context.
“I want to be clear: I have indeed supported the black community,” Garcia wrote.
“I got racist from Tim Bradley on ESPN calling me a zoo animal and then I turn the other cheek and I’m a racist,” he said. [because] Everyone, including the black guy, was drunk and saying the same things people always say.
“If you react to words, you’re being overly sensitive. God knows my heart and I will protect black children until the day I die. I was against black-on-black crime. They took everything out of context. [Muslim] I was against all pedophile activity. [religion] And I don’t agree with that.”
