Gina Carano calls out Hollywood’s double standard on speech

Actress Gina Carano called out the apparent hypocrisy of Hollywood elites when it comes to free speech.

Carano, who was famously fired by Disney for not adhering to the company’s values, noted that whether a person faces punishment for speech from a Hollywood studio depends on their political stance.

The former mixed martial artist starred in Disney’s “The Mandalorian” but was fired by Lucasfilm Studios for expressing views that contradicted government policy on issues such as mandatory vaccinations and mask wearing.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and will not be in the future,” a Lucasfilm statement said at the time. Carano has since sued the company.

“It must feel good to be able to express yourself so freely. Not everyone has that privilege in this country.”

The day before Independence Day, Carano responded to actor Mark Ruffalo. Shared the facts It talks about Germany in 1933 with photographs of the Nazi Party.

“March 1933[:] “In Germany, the Enabling Act was passed, giving the Chief Executive the power to enforce his own laws without checks and balances. The passage of this act marked a formal transition from a democratic republic to a totalitarian dictatorship. Six months later, it became a one-party state,” the post read.

Ruffalo re-shared it, It pointed out “…Just to be safe. History repeats itself.”

Carano responded at length with a response about what she sees as double standards.

“The double standards are on full display. It’s always clearly an issue in Hollywood,” she said. I have written Regarding X. “There’s example after example that proves this, like Mark Ruffalos below, who I think should have the right to express himself without getting fired, by the way.”

The actress said she finds most of Ruffalo’s political posts disgusting, but added that he is a person who is “passionate about things he feels strongly about” and therefore should be allowed to express his opinion.

“It must feel good to be able to express yourself freely, and not everyone in this country has that privilege without having everything they love taken away from them,” Carano said.

The 42-year-old claimed that Disney and Lucasfilm had “maliciously distorted the story.” Memes she postedShe said this was a warning to neighbours not to demonise each other or history would repeat itself.

“Are we left wondering why he has that privilege and I don’t?” she wrote of Ruffalo.

“It has been suggested that I am comparing Republicans to Jews in the Holocaust, but I have never said or posted that. I have never called anyone a Nazi and I do not deny the Holocaust,” Carano said.

Among the offensive comments that led to her being fired by Disney in early 2021 was a statement that she did not include pronouns on her ex profile, and on her Twitter profile.

“They are upset that I don’t write pronouns in my profile to show my support for transgender life. After months of harassing me in every way possible, I have decided to write three very controversial words in my profile: beep/bop/boop.” She wrote September 2020.

Carano also appears to have stirred up controversy during the November 2020 election.

“We need to clean up our election process so we don’t have to go through what we’re experiencing today. We need to enact laws to protect us from voter fraud,” she said. Said.

“We will investigate every state, film the count, root out fake votes, require ID, and end voter fraud in 2020 and fix the system.”

The former mixed martial arts star concluded his latest statement by saying he hopes the lawsuit against Disney/Lucasfilm will “restore balance to an industry that is so broken.”

The theme of bringing balance is reminiscent of Star Wars storylines, though it’s unclear if the allegory is intentional.

“Let’s restore balance. … As we’ve said from the beginning, let’s talk about cancellation.”
