Biden Doubles-Down on Remaining in Presidential Race: ‘I’m Staying in’

President Joe Biden is determined to remain in the presidential race despite concerns over his poor performance in last week’s debate.

Biden at a rally in Madison, Wisconsin on Friday. Said He led the crowd to believe he was “running” for president again and “will win.”

“You all know we had a little debate last week,” Biden told the audience. “I wouldn’t say it was my best performance, but since then there’s been a lot of speculation: ‘What is Joe going to do? Is he going to stay in the race? Is he going to drop out? What is he going to do?’ Well, here’s my answer: I’m going to run and I’m going to win again.”

As the crowd began chanting “Go Joe!”, Biden said he was the “sitting president of the United States,” adding that voters had “lived up to my expectations” in the 2020 presidential election.

“I am the nominee of the Democratic Party,” Biden added, “and I am the nominee of this party because millions of Democrats like you voted for me in primaries across the country.”

Biden also slammed people who “don’t seem to care” about who voters voted for in the primary, adding that people are “trying to throw him out” of the presidential race.

“Let me be as clear as I can: I’m going to continue to run,” Biden added. “I’m going to beat Donald Trump. I’m going to win again in 2020. And, by the way, I’m going to win again in 2024.”

Biden’s comments came a week after his presidential debate showdown with former President Donald Trump caused panic among many Democratic officials, donors and voters, raising doubts about whether Biden could serve another term as president.

While Biden continues to receive support from Democrats such as former President Barack Obama, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania), other Democrats such as Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) and Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Arizona), as well as several Democratic donors, have called on Biden to withdraw from the presidential race and “step aside.”

On Wednesday, Biden met with Democratic governors and said he was “absolutely going to run” and was confident he could beat Trump. After the meeting, Governors Gavin Newsom (D-California), Gretchen Whitmer (D-Michigan) and Roy Cooper (D-North Carolina) issued messages of support for Biden.
