Migrant Choir Teacher Imprisoned in Texas for Child Porn

A Texas choir teacher has been convicted of violating federal child pornography laws and will spend eight years in prison. The teacher, a Mexican national and legal resident of Mexico, will be deported after serving his sentence.

Orlando Diaz Ramirez, 33, appeared before Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Klein this week to be sentenced to 97 months in federal prison. Diaz Ramirez pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography in September 2023. The choir teacher admitted to receiving 300 child pornography videos on a USB storage device from Israel Flores, 22. At that hearing, Flores also pleaded guilty in the case and was sentenced to 97 months in prison.

According to information provided to Breitbart Texas by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, Diaz, who was working as a middle school choir teacher in South Texas at the time, had another eight gigabytes of child pornography stored in a Dropbox account. Dropbox is an online storage service.

The case began in 2020 when federal authorities learned of a Dropbox account that stored child pornography and were able to trace its use to a residence in Donna, Texas. In March 2021, agents from Homeland Security Investigations searched the home and interviewed Diaz, who discovered he had downloaded and stored child pornography files in his Dropbox account. As part of their investigation, agents learned Diaz had received a USB drive from Flores and visited Diaz’s home, where they found additional files of child pornography.

“With today’s sentencing, HSI has removed a dangerous child abuser from our community,” said Homeland Security Investigations RGV Deputy Special Agent in Charge Mark Lippa. “Preventing and investigating crimes against children is HSI’s top priority, and we will continue to commit law enforcement resources to identify and bring to justice child abusers who traumatize and victimize children.”
