Biden gain ground on Trump in battleground states: poll

Despite his disastrous defeat in last week’s debate, President Biden is catching up with former President Donald Trump in key battleground states, trailing him by just 2 percentage points, according to a new poll.

Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, is leading Democrat Joe Biden 47% to 45% in states crucial to winning the November election, according to a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll. Follow-up survey It was released on Saturday.

This is the smallest margin since polling began in October.

Although Biden lost his home state of Pennsylvania, he is currently leading Trump in Michigan and Wisconsin.

He also trails in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina, within the poll’s margin of statistical error.

Among registered voters surveyed, nearly three in 10 Democrats said Biden should drop out of the race, well ahead of the 9% of Republicans who said Trump should also drop out.

The Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll differs from some national polls that have shown Biden’s approval rating worsening since the June 27 debate, when he gave incoherent answers and appeared to stumble over his words.

The poll found that voters in battleground states thought Biden performed poorly, with fewer than one in five saying the 81-year-old Biden was a more consistent, mentally healthy and advantageous candidate.

The poll was conducted four days after Trump and Biden faced off, later than some national polls and giving voters more time to assess Biden’s shaky performance.
