With temperatures expected to top 95 degrees on Sunday, the city said it would open 44 public schools across the five boroughs as cooling centers.

Several facilities in the city are pet-friendly, so the city’s furry residents have somewhere to escape the heat, and service animals are always allowed at all facilities.
City officials also urged New Yorkers to take extra care at beaches, as strong rip currents can sweep even expert swimmers out to sea.
Senior and senior living centers will also be available for people of all ages.
Shelters are available for homeless people.

Most of the heatstroke deaths in the city occur in apartments without air conditioning, according to the mayor’s office.
Avoid any physical exertion when outdoors in hot temperatures.
Hot, dry skin, difficulty breathing, fast heart rate, confusion, dizziness and nausea are all signs of heat stroke.
