noWith summer upon us, these styles are perfect for the warmer months. New styles range from super chic knee-length suit shorts to sleek tailored styles in office-friendly pinstripes, so you can wear shorts to the workplace too. George at Asda’s chalk-striped black linen shorts (£12) are a great place to start, or Me & Em’s tailored black shorts (£175) will pair well with a waistcoat, another hot summer item. Pair it with a blazer, belt and loafers to pull the whole look together.
If knee-length shorts aren’t your usual fashion staple, a look at the runway shows might make you think otherwise. Steal styling tips from the catwalk: at Marques’ Almeida, navy taffeta shorts were teamed with a matching oversized shirt and strappy heels, while in the evening, at Carven, they were teamed with a shirt and statement earrings, and at Chanel (left), denim was teamed with a smart bouclé jacket. An all-white summer staple that always works, even in the heat, is an all-white look. Team a white shirt with Reformation’s longline linen Liam shorts (£148), paired with fisherman sandals and white socks during the day, and a vest and mesh ballet pumps in the evening.
Denim is the casual version of this trend, perfect when paired with an oversized linen blazer and loose shirt, as seen in Arket (2 below) and in a light wash by Nobody’s Child (£55). If a vest and shorts feel too pale for daywear, try wearing a striped shirt unbuttoned with one side half tucked in for a cool look. Alternatively, try pairing cotton pants of any colour with a white tank top and chunky sandals for a weekend look. For dinner, try kitten heels and a gold chain necklace.
