Joel McHale Says He’s To Blame For ‘Community’ Movie Delay

Joel McHale, if there was anyone to blame for the delay, community The movie is his.

While speaking GQ After her role on season three of FX’s hit kitchen drama bearThe actor blamed his busy schedule for the delay.

“We haven’t finished filming yet. We’re still getting started. And for a second I thought it would all be finished by the end of the year, but that didn’t happen, so I don’t have any definitive updates,” he said.

“But we have the funding, and this is a big step, and hopefully, people still want to see it, and Peacock will pay for it. So, I can’t wait to do it. I’ll say vaguely next year. How’s that going to work?”

When the interviewer joked that the delay was due to Donald Glover not being available, McHale responded, “No! If it was anybody’s fault, it was my schedule in this case. It wasn’t his fault. He was available. No, no, no.”

He added, “I say this — and print this — that’s absolutely not true. It wasn’t Donald’s schedule. We love Donald. It’s totally you blaming my schedule.”

In February, Glover confirmed that he was “all in” on the film once he heard the script was completed.

The project was first announced in September 2022, nearly 10 years after fans started a petition to have the comedy’s off-the-air drama adapted into a movie.

Series creator Dan Harmon will reunite with the show’s original cast members McHale, Glover, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong. McHale and Andrew Guest will serve as executive producers on the film.

“‘Six seasons and one movie’ started as a funny little line in an early season of Community and quickly sparked a passionate fan movement for this iconic, funny and cool (really cool) NBC comedy,” Susan Rovner, entertainment content chairman, NBCUniversal Television & Streaming, said in a statement at the time.

“After 15 years, we’re incredibly grateful to be able to deliver this promised film to our fans, and we can’t wait to continue this epic comedy with Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, and our partners at Sony and UTV for Peacock audiences.”

Glover was the one who first proposed the idea. communityHe spoke about the film during the cast’s virtual reunion table read in 2020, which marked his first appearance with the rest of the cast since leaving the show after season five.

Chevy Chase, who appeared in the original series but left in season 4 due to conflicts with Harmon, does not appear in the film as his character was killed off in season 5.
