A mother of three who committed suicide at a Swiss clinic is said to have done so out of revenge against her lawyer husband, who has custody of the children. Daily Mail.
Katherine Kasenov, 54, of Westchester Post to Facebook In May 2023, she announced that she would “take her own life.”
“She was just worried that her husband had treated her badly.”
Kasenov writes: “[i]”It is with a deep sadness that I hope you will never experience that I write my final post. Today I take my own life,” he said, adding, “I will do so in a majestic and idyllic location in Europe. I am left with no other choice.”
“For the last four years of my life, I have woken up every day to a nightmare like no other. I can no longer tolerate Alan Kasenov’s abuse and terror…I have also endured the emotional toll of being away from my children for long periods of time,” the message continued.
Kassenoff claimed that her husband, Alan Kassenoff, had abused her and their three children, which ultimately prompted her to decide to take her own life, according to the report. Kassenoff was a practicing litigation lawyer before her death.
Alan was awarded sole custody of the couple’s three daughters, though details of the custody arrangement are unclear. Katherine reportedly decided to end her life after losing custody of her children and being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Free Press report New details about the case have emerged suggesting it may not have been as simple as Katherine made it out to be: former nannies have alleged that Katherine would punish her adopted daughter by “pouring water” on her all day to keep her from sleeping, and she has also been accused of showing favouritism towards her two other daughters, who were later born via IVF.
Leading up to her death, Katherine had been examined by psychiatrist Colin Brewer, who wrote a report for the Pegasus Swiss Society, which said Katherine was in “good enough health” to end her own life. According to the Free Press, Pegasus is known for helping people end their own lives, even if they don’t suffer from a chronic or terminal illness.
Brewer also revealed that Katherine had planned to kill herself twice before, and initially planned to end her life in October 2022 but this was postponed for administrative reasons.
The psychiatrist said it was not her cancer diagnosis that led her to take her life, describing the act as “existential assisted suicide”.
“She was just worried about how badly her husband had treated her,” Brewer said.
But Brewer made no medical diagnosis and said Katherine’s untimely death was one of “understandable tragedy”.
