Stephen A. Smith responds to Jaylen Brown following 'clickbait' criticism

Stephen A. Smith has responded to Jaylen Brown, who recently labeled the ESPN host as “the face of clickbait media” during a Twitch livestream. Brown, also referring to Smith as a “clown,” prompted Smith to take a moment on “First Take” to share his counterpoints during a lengthy tirade.

While acknowledging he didn’t intend to be disrespectful, Smith suggested that Brown might want to reflect on his own actions instead. “Point it at yourself, brother,” he remarked.

Smith criticized Brown’s sentiments about the Boston Celtics’ previous season, which ended with a disappointing first-round playoff exit against the Philadelphia 76ers. In response to an ESPN discussion, Brown remarked, “Did he just tell me to be quiet? Who am I supposed to be quiet for?” He further claimed that if he had to cease streaming, he would prefer Smith to stop appearing on networks for not practicing genuine journalism, accusing him instead of cliched content.

Smith didn’t hold back during his response. He pointed out that the Celtics, with a rich history of 18 championships, had recently suffered from a historic playoff blunder by losing a 3-1 lead. Smith mentioned the stark contrast between Brown’s statement about the season being his favorite and the disappointing realities of the playoffs. His concern was rooted in the ramifications of such statements so soon after a bitter defeat.

At the conclusion of his commentary, Smith delivered a cautionary note to Brown, suggesting he tread lightly with his words. He questioned whether Brown truly wanted him to delve deeper into the dynamics of the Celtics’ locker room or the opinions held about him and fellow player Jayson Tatum.

Smith also expressed his respect for Brown, referencing his philanthropic efforts within the community and emphasizing that he has always been supportive of him. The Celtics recently faced three straight losses against the Sixers, marking a shocking playoff elimination. During the regular season, Brown shone as the team’s leading player, averaging nearly 29 points per game while Tatum was recovering from an injury.

Despite earning a second seed with a solid record, the Celtics faced disappointment in the playoffs, becoming part of an unfortunate chapter in their storied history.
