PITTSBURGH — The Mets will be bringing in a repeat player for the All-Star Game.
On Sunday, Pete Alonso was the Mets’ lone representative when he was surprisingly selected to the National League All-Star team.
Alonso was selected as the backup first baseman behind starter Bryce Harper.
“I’m really fortunate,” Alonso said after the Mets beat the Pirates, 3-2, at PNC Park.
This marks Alonso’s third consecutive All-Star selection and fourth time in the game’s five seasons.
In 2020, the game was canceled due to the pandemic, and Alonso was left out of the All-Star team the following year.
Alonso told The Post on Friday that he would only consider participating in the Home Run Derby if he was selected to the All-Star Game.
He was asked Sunday whether he planned to play in the tournament now.
“You’ll see,” Alonso said.

Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor were the players the Mets missed out on, but both could be selected as replacements if needed.
Alonso is batting .243/.325/.464 with 18 home runs and 48 RBIs, second only to Diamondbacks’ Christian Walker in hitting statistics, who did not make the list despite batting .268/.341/.516 with 22 home runs and 64 RBIs.
