Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that Democrats “have to get that motherfucker out of the way” and that President Joe Biden needs to consult with people outside his inner circle to figure out what’s right for the country.
“Ultimately, this is a decision that President Biden must make alone,” Schiff said.
“I think the performance on the debate stage has rightly raised questions among the American people about whether the President has what it takes to beat Donald Trump. This is an existential race given Joe Biden’s incredible record and Donald Trump’s terrible record. Joe Biden is running against a criminal. It can’t be close, and the only reason it is close is because of the president’s age.”
Schiff added, “My advice to the president is to seek the opinions of people he trusts. The president has obviously talked to his family about this, and that’s important, but he should seek people with some distance and objectivity. He should seek pollsters that are not his pollsters. The president should take his time to make the best informed decision he can, and if that decision is overturned, he should do everything in his power to kill that motherfucker.”
He concluded: “This is not a question of whether the president did his best in college, but whether he made the right decision to run or to pass the baton. That is the most important decision the president has to make right now. This is a question of whether this country can remain a democracy or whether it will devolve into some kind of dictatorship. Everything hinges on this. I know people feel a sense of urgency. I feel a sense of urgency too, but I would ask the president to slow down and take the time to make the right decision that is best for the country.”
