At Least 100 People Shot During July 4th Weekend in Chicago

In Chicago, run by Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson, at least 100 people were shot over the Fourth of July weekend, 17 of them fatally.

Earlier this weekend, Breitbart News reported that at least 58 people were shot in the city between Wednesday night and Friday night. Of the 58 people shot, 11 died from their injuries.

By Sunday morning, the shooting death toll had risen to at least 87, 16 of whom were fatal.

The violence was so intense that ABC 7/ Chicago Sun-Times It pointed out One Chicago resident dubbed the Fourth of July “Assassination Day.”

Monday morning, CNN report At least 100 people were killed in the shooting, 17 of whom died from their injuries. CNN further noted that “shootings this Fourth of July weekend in Chicago were about 27% higher than last year.”

The Fourth of July weekend will last four days in 2024 and four days in 2023. It also lasted four days in 2019, when a total of 68 shooters were involved, five of whom were shot to death.

Like the entire state of Illinois, Chicago has a 72-hour waiting period for gun purchases, red flag laws, an assault weapons ban, a ban on high-capacity magazines, and a requirement for a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card, which requires a thorough background check by the Illinois State Police to obtain a FOID card.

Additionally, Cook County, home to the city of Chicago, has its own “assault weapons” ban and “large capacity” magazine ban, yet at least 100 people were shot in Chicago over the Fourth of July weekend.
