John Ondrasik, the lead singer of Five for Fighting and a Grammy-nominated artist, expresses his pride in headlining a performance on the USS Nimitz, which will set sail from New York Harbor on July 4 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
During the Freedom 250 celebration, Ondrasik will perform his well-known song “Superman (It’s Not Easy).” He’ll be sharing the stage with Aron Oher, a freed Israeli hostage, and will be joined by heroes from 9/11, personnel from the New York Fire Department, city police, wounded soldiers, Gold Star families, U.S. sailors, and other distinguished guests.
This performance is a significant part of the 250th-anniversary festivities, which aim to unite U.S. and international navies, tall ships, and aircraft, along with partners from over 50 nations.
Ondrasik mentioned to Breitbart News: “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share ‘Superman’ this Independence Day on the USS Nimitz for Freedom 250 and to honor our nation’s sailors, first responders, and Gold Star families. America has always stood as a beacon of hope, and we’re just getting started!”
After the announcement of his performance, he added that he was “honored to be involved” in the Freedom 250 event. “America is the finest force for goodness, freedom, and human rights in history. A heartfelt thanks to all our veterans, active military, and their families who form the core of our great nation. Happy 250th Birthday, America! I love you!”
In 2025, “Superman (It’s Not Easy)” will acquire a deeper significance as it serves as a rallying cry for Alon Oher and other hostages, who will have endured more than 700 days in Hamas captivity. The video titled “Aron and the Superman for Hostages” gained global attention and featured Ondrasik, Oher’s brother Ronen, his mother Idit Ohel, and a network of friends in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square. Ondrasik’s adjusted lyrics shifted from anguish to resilience and hope.
With an impactful music career, Ondrasik has seen his songs like “Two Lights” reach the top 10 charts. His hits, including “Superman (It’s Not Easy),” “100 Years,” “The Riddle,” “World,” “Chances,” and “Easy Tonight,” have collectively garnered over 2 billion streams globally, earning him recognition as one of the top five adult contemporary artists of the 2000s.
