Republicans on Monday roundly mocked President Joe Biden for vowing adamantly to stay in the race during a phone interview with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
Biden, who reportedly watches “Morning Joe” every morning, called into the show to reiterate his pledge after it was reported that a total of nine Democratic lawmakers had called for him to resign.
“They’re celebrities! But I don’t care what celebrities think,” Biden said when asked about his opponents. “I get so frustrated with the elites in my party.”
“All the data shows that the average Democrat voted, and 14 million of them voted for me, and they still want me to be their nominee,” he said.
“Challenge me,” Biden told critics of accepting the nomination at the Democratic National Convention, “and the bottom line is, we’re not going anywhere. I’m not going anywhere.”

According to multiple media reports on Sunday, Reps. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Mark Takano (D-Calif.), Don Beyer (D-VA) and Adam Smith (D-Wash.) are the latest Democrats to call on Biden to drop out of the race. They join five other Democrats who have called on Biden to drop out of the presidential race: Reps. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Seth Moulton (D-MA), Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Angie Craig (D-MN) and Mike Quigley (D-IL).
Biden’s fierce opposition has not been supported by Democratic leaders, with House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) still appearing to support Biden.
Political experts say Democrats have no choice but to turn to Biden for three reasons: the difficulty of replacing him with 50 states on the ballot, the difficulty of putting money behind a new candidate and the difficulty of finding a potential sacrificial lamb to run in Biden’s place.
