Florida man allegedly dangles, drops child head-first from 2-story hotel balcony: ‘Tragic event’

A Florida man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly dangling his child from a second-story balcony at a Daytona Beach hotel and dropping him over his head, authorities said.

Daytona Beach Police Department said Brandon Gilmore, 31, has been charged with aggravated child abuse following an incident at Sandlewood Resort on Saturday afternoon.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital, police were called to a traumatic situation at Sandlewood Resort on Saturday afternoon.

Gilmore told police he met the woman at the hotel pool five hours before the incident.

According to an arrest affidavit, Gilmore said the woman invited him into her room and asked for permission to take her son outside to play with her and “give him a little scare.”

Police said Gilmore then went outside the hotel room and grabbed the boy’s legs and dangled him from the balcony.

According to the arrest warrant, witnesses described seeing the child hanging and hearing the child scream before being dropped headfirst from a second-story balcony.

Both Gilmore and the woman had been drinking alcohol at the pool throughout the day, according to reports.

Police said the incident was also captured on surveillance cameras, which corroborated witness accounts and Ms Gilmore’s story.

“The child has been released from the hospital in good health and is not expected to suffer any long-term health issues as a result of this tragic incident,” officers with the Daytona Police Department said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

The child’s age was not disclosed in the affidavit.

Gilmore remains held in Volusia County Jail without bail, according to online jail records.
