Republican National Committee Policy Committee
Reportedly The House of Representatives on Monday voted 84-18 to adopt former President Donald Trump’s proposed 2024 convention platform, affirming and outlining the Republican Party’s “America First” priorities heading into the election, while also clarifying which issues will effectively be scrapped going forward.
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley
I got it. The platform states, “It is a bold road map to undo the devastating damage that Joe Biden’s far-left policies have inflicted on our country, defeat President Trump and lead him to a historic victory in November, and Make America Great Again.”
From the beginning, it was approved
16-page platform This signals a renewed focus on Trump’s populist stance on helping the “forgotten American people” and avoiding the “temptations of globalization.” As well as emphasizing the importance of re-establishing America’s borders, domesticating manufacturing, securing elections and cracking down on crime, Trump’s party also seems committed to industrializing space and rebuilding the country’s battered cities.
“For decades, our politicians have sold off our jobs and our lives to the highest bidders overseas,” the document’s introduction reads. “They have shielded themselves from criticism and consequences for their misdeeds, allowing our borders to be invaded, our cities to be taken over by crime, our justice system to be weaponized, and our young people to feel hopeless and powerless.”
“They denied our history and our values. Simply put, they did everything in their power to destroy our country,” the preamble adds.
Noting that the Trump administration’s first term marked a positive change in this trend, the platform suggests that the Republican triumvirate in Washington, D.C., will continue Trump’s previous plan to Make America Great Again, which appears to involve implementing the following 20 pledges, originally written in all capital letters:
- “Close the borders and stop immigrants coming in.”
- “We will launch the largest deportation operation in American history.”
- “End inflation and make America affordable again.”
- “Let’s stop outsourcing and make America a manufacturing powerhouse.”
- “Big tax cuts for workers, and no tax on tips!”
- “We will defend our Constitution, our Bill of Rights, and our fundamental freedoms, including freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the right to keep and bear arms.”
- “Prevent World War III, restore peace to Europe and the Middle East, and build a massive Iron Dome missile defense shield across the entire nation. All made in America.”
- “End the weaponization of government against the American people.”
- “We will stop the spread of immigrant crime, destroy foreign drug cartels, put an end to gang violence, and put violent criminals behind bars.”
- “Rebuild cities, including Washington.[,] DC will be safe, clean and beautiful again.”;
- “Strengthen and modernize our military to make it undoubtedly the strongest and most powerful in the world.”
- “Maintain the US dollar as the global reserve currency”
- “I will fight to protect Social Security and Medicare without cuts, including changing the retirement age.”
- “Repeal the electric vehicle mandate and reduce costly and burdensome regulations.”
- “Cut off federal funding to schools that push critical race theory, radical gender ideology, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, and political content onto children.”
- “Keep men out of women’s sports”
- “We will expel pro-Hamas extremists from our countries and make our college campuses safe and patriotic again.”
- “Ensuring election security, including same-day voting, voter ID, ballots and proof of citizenship.”
- “Let’s unite our country by delivering new record levels of success.”
The remainder of the platform expands on some of these pledges, while promising other Republican positions, including opposing the creation of a central bank digital currency, opposing “the Democrats’ illegal and un-American crackdown on cryptocurrency,” opposing taxpayer-funded gender reassignment surgery, supporting the development of artificial intelligence with free speech, and supporting the restoration and preservation of the beauty of public architecture.
The platform also suggests that Republicans support the creation of a federal task force aimed at combating anti-Christian bigotry and “investigating all forms of unlawful discrimination, harassment and persecution of Christians in America.”
While previous Republican platforms have emphasized pro-life concerns about the genocide of unborn children, Trump’s platform appears to be more Republican realism on abortion.
The bill platform suggests that while the 14th Amendment states that “life or liberty shall not be denied without due process,” its application to unborn children is a matter for each state to decide. It now appears that Republicans will only commit to supporting access to “birth control” and fertility treatments while opposing late-term abortions.
The Washington Post Highlighting The document also removes language from an earlier platform that condemned the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to grant gay people the right to “marry.”
Instead, he said, “The Republican Party will promote a culture that values the sanctity of marriage, the blessing of childhood, and the foundational role of family. We will support working parents. And we will end policies that punish families.”
Trump
I got it. At Truth Social, we state, “Our policies are forward-looking and have a strong commitment that can be achieved quickly with Republican majorities in the White House and the House and Senate. We are, simply put, the party of common sense!”
Trump campaign senior advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles
Said “Joe Biden and the Democrats debated who their top nominee would be, and they vowed to continue to push back against the Trump administration’s plan to raise prices for families, open the door to immigrant crime with a wide-open border, shackle America’s energy with Washington-imposed bureaucracy, and smother America’s energy with bureaucratic red tape,” they said in a joint statement. [sic] “While weak foreign policy has created chaos around the world, President Trump will Make America Great Again through his America First principles.”
The 2024 platform has received mixed reactions.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), chair of the platform committee, said:
was suggested It’s the “best platform we’ve ever put forward.”
“The party is united behind our candidate, President Trump, and I believe our platform reflects his views,” said Kevin Cabrera, a Republican National Committeeman from Florida.
Said WISN-TV. “It’s a stark contrast to the other side.”
Some in the tech industry praised the platform for its resistance to regulation and its forward-thinking on space and AI.
Jacob Helberg, a member of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, said:
was suggested It “sets a new standard for what a pro-technology agenda looks like.”
Gail Ruzicka, a Republican National Committee member from Utah,
Said WISN: There was virtually no discussion about the platform.
“There was no committee. We always had subcommittees that worked on parts of the policy platform. Amendments could be proposed, debated and added. It’s always been that way. I’ve done it many times,” Ruzicka said. “They didn’t allow any amendments. They didn’t allow any debate. They just crushed us.”
“I am very disappointed that there is no pro-life language,” Ruzicka added. “There are good points in this platform. There are many points I support. … But I have not voted for it before because there was no platform. I have been coming to this convention since 1992, and this is the first time there has not been a pro-life platform.”
Some pro-lifers, like Paul Brown, policy director for the Texas Abortion Abolition Campaign,
Similarly lamented While the party has softened its stance on abortion, other lawmakers, including SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser and American Principles Project President Terry Schilling, voiced support for the “common-sense promises” in the party platform.
