PragerU CEO Marissa Streit and Mike Benz, executive director of the Foundation for Freedom and a former State Department official, recently discussed NewsGuard, a for-profit company that is working with corporations and advertisers to wage a massive blacklisting campaign to strangle conservative media.
During the period Recent Episodes of Real TalkStreit noted that parents are hearing about something called “media literacy education.”
“It’s become part of our schools and it’s integrated into the curriculum,” Streit said, noting that NewsGuard is behind the media literacy education.
Benz told Streit that “media literacy” refers to the left gaining the ability to “control what is successful in the news media and social media that kids can read.”
“When people hear the term ‘media literacy,’ they associate it with the word ‘literacy’ and think, ‘Yes, we have a literacy problem in this country,'” Benz said, noting that people often mistakenly think that media literacy is about teaching students how to read and becoming more literate.
“No, it’s the opposite,” Benz asserts. “The focus on the word ‘literacy’ is the idea that if you’re reading the wrong media sources, you’re media illiterate, and you need to read state- or government-approved media sources to get the right ideas, and only then can you be considered media literate.”
“The idea is basically to weed out institutions that receive low scores on the NewsGuard ratings,” he added, noting that NewsGuard is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), one of the largest teachers unions.
“This means kids going to elementary, middle, and high school and college won’t be able to cite Prager University or the Heritage Foundation,” Bentz said.
As reported by Breitbart News, in a recently published article, PragerU accused NewsGuard of engaging in underhanded and “sly” tactics aimed at putting “out of business” companies that oppose the left. video In it, Strait explains how left-wing activists are using the ratings system as a way to censor opposing opinions. Have you heard of NewsGuard? They claim to fight “misinformation,” but who funds them and what is their purpose?
And why are they targeting new media?

How it works is that NewsGuard sends conservative media companies “a list of incriminating questions about a hot topic,” and if the company responds, “we’ll ignore their answers and ask new questions,” PragerU’s CEO explained.
Streit added that if a company doesn’t respond, NewsGuard will list it as an unreliable source and warn PR firms, advertising agencies and large corporations to stay away — all in an effort to put conservative news companies “out of business.”
The PragerU CEO also noted that Big Tech has found loopholes to censor online speech with the help of NewsGuard, and said one only needs to point to NewsGuard’s ratings to explain why Big Tech companies are silencing certain media and voices.
“In essence, NewsGuard allows us to censor speech without leaving fingerprints,” Streit said.
Governments also use NewsGuard as a tool in this effort, with the Department of Defense paying more than $700,000 for the ratings system to monitor online “misinformation” — or, in Orwellian terms, “information the Department of Defense doesn’t like,” Streit added.
“When NewsGuard red flags a source, it’s enough to know that the left doesn’t want you to read, watch or listen to it,” Streit said.
