George Stephanopoulos tells random pedestrian that Biden cannot serve another term, then retracts after video hits TMZ

“Good Morning America” anchor George Stephanopoulos was forced to retract a comment he made about President Joe Biden after making the comment to a pedestrian who was recording the conversation.

“I answered a question from a passerby. I shouldn’t have done that.”

TMZ called the confession, made Tuesday by a former Bill Clinton campaign staffer, “shocking.”

“Do you think Biden should resign? You’ve talked to him more than anybody recently,” the pedestrian asked Stephanopoulos.

“I don’t think he can serve another four years,” he replied simply.

TMZ Obtained After the video was recorded and released, Stephanopoulos contacted the media and said he should not have made the comments.

“Today I answered a question from a passerby. I shouldn’t have done that,” he said.

ABC News also distanced itself from his comments.

“George expressed his own views and did not represent a position of ABC News,” the company said.

“Our polling doesn’t show that.”

Biden was interviewed by Stephanopoulos after Democrats called on him to step down from the campaign trail over his debacle at the first presidential debate on CNN. The questions were meant to quell doubts about Biden’s competence but instead stoked fears and divisions within the Democratic Party.

“Do you really believe that you’re not late right now?” Asked “But the reality is, I think the president would agree,” Stephanopoulos said.

When told his approval rating was 36 percent, Biden said, “I don’t think that’s my approval rating. The polls don’t show that.”

He also claimed he had been exhausted before the debate and acknowledged that it had not been a good night for his campaign.

The president has since forcefully stated that he has no plans to withdraw from the race and believes he can beat Trump.

“Despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I want you to know that I remain in this race, I fight to the end, and I am determined to defeat Trump,” Biden said in a statement.

“I can answer all of this clearly and without question: If I didn’t absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024, I would not be running again,” he added.

Many polls have shown Trump widening his lead over Biden after the disastrous debates, with a majority of respondents in one poll saying Biden has mental and cognitive deficiencies and should not serve as president.
