A new mother taught her newborn baby how to be a hero.
Frances Lonergan was enjoying the Cape Cod sunshine on a family vacation at Dowdy’s Beach in Osterville, Massachusetts, when a man’s desperate cries for help vividly recorded the serene scene.
“The victim was unfamiliar with the waterway’s steep drop and strong currents and began screaming for help as he struggled to surface,” Barnstable police said on Facebook.
A passerby called 911, but Lonergan didn’t wait.

A New York passerby who saw the new mother spring into action said it was a “selfless and courageous act.”
“Witnesses said Mr Lonergan’s heroic actions undoubtedly saved the swimmer’s life,” police said in a post accompanied by a photo of Mr Lonergan.
