Democrats who denounced the Republican SAVE Act on the House floor and voted against it said its voter ID rules are identical to Civil War-era anti-segregation laws.
“This is the 2024 version of the Jim Crow poll tax, and we should vote against it.” Claimed Rep. Jennifer McClellan (D-Va.) denounced the bill, which would require people to prove their citizenship before voting for either Democrat or Republican.
Between the 1800s and 1960s, many who did not pay a flat “poll tax” levied on individuals living in a jurisdiction were denied the right to vote. But McClellan is determined to dig up the bones of historic racism in order to secure a Democratic victory in 2024, saying:
This bill is essentially a poll tax, because I am not aware of any document proving citizenship that would not cost an individual to obtain. [and] Unless we mandate that it be provided free of charge to all states, that is an unfunded mandate.
In McClellan’s Virginia, individuals pay a small amount. $4 per year — $2 a year for a driver’s license and $2 a year for a simple ID card. By contrast, in the 2020 election, political campaigns spent $14 billion to mobilize 154 million voters, or about $90 per voter.

Gov. Joe Biddy’s staff has promised to veto the bill if it passes both houses of Congress.
Republican leaders are pushing the bill ahead of the election after failing to include it in a must-pass spending measure in the spring.
Voter ID bills have overwhelming support among the public.
The large numbers of illegal immigrants in U.S. cities helps Democrats build up a stockpile of emergency ballots through fraudulent registrations. These illegal ballots can later be smuggled into ballot boxes through mail-in ballots or drop boxes, or even voted themselves in less-policed areas, said William Geen, founder of the ALIPAC movement, which calls for stronger border security.
He told Breitbart News:
What will happen next is that people [Democratic operatives] Labor unions, non-governmental organizations, Democratic Party adjuncts, private contractors, and perhaps [smuggling] And the gangsters themselves. They’re all given marching orders and lists and instructions on how to handle this. [ballot-creation campaign].
…
I think they’re trying to get a lot of immigrants through the mail. They’re not going to send illegal immigrants directly to the polls. [stations] If you go to a polling place on Election Day, there’s a good chance you’ll be caught or watched by pesky Republican poll watchers. [vote by] Email is the safest way for them to do this.
Since 2021, Biden’s vice presidency has imported at least 7 million migrants, many of whom are being sheltered and fed by federally funded nonprofits in cities controlled by Democratic politicians. Registration and Voting Rules — It also controls police powers, which can choose not to enforce voting laws.
“They are [migrants] “Joe Biden said it’s OK.” [Barack] “President Obama says it’s OK. If you don’t want to be deported, you have to do this,” Geen said.
Democrats could also use the smuggling ring’s political allies to “send the message that, ‘If you know what’s good for you, you’re going to do it,'” Geen said.
“If Biden vetoes the SAVE Act, it will be a national admission that Democrats are counting on undocumented voters this year,” he said, adding:
I know a lot about this strategy because in the 1990s I was the highest ranking College Democrat in North Carolina and that was my job. I pioneered “motor voter” registration and registered over 3,000 voters. So I know different ways to handle this strategy.
That’s why Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to protect their hoard of illegal votes.
“Republicans want to put up barriers because when people vote, they lose,” argued Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pennsylvania), adding:
They don’t want to hear Black voices, brown voices, LGBTQIA voices, or young people. Basic access to our democracy is being politicized, and this xenophobic attack we’re discussing today will make it harder for Americans to vote. Republicans claim that requiring identification is a small request, but nearly 30 million people do not have a valid driver’s license, and 15 to 18 million adults cannot obtain documentation to prove their birth or citizenship.
