Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.) said on CNN’s “Newsnight” on Wednesday that it wouldn’t hurt for President Joe Biden to take a cognitive test.
“What should he do to end this conversation? Should he suggest that he take a cognitive test and demand that Donald Trump do the same?” host Abby Phillips asked.
“At the end of the day, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being honest,” Governor Whitmer said.
She continued, “I don’t think it will hurt, but I have a chapter in my book about being a happy warrior, and I talk about how I was encouraged to never forget that in a debate, the person who looks like they’re having the most fun wins. Certainly, the first presidential debate was not a huge success for President Biden, but the more he shows up every day and fights for the American people, the happier he becomes and the more he cares about others before himself.”
Whitmer added, “And that’s why I think we can’t lose sight of how high the stakes are in this moment when we have Donald Trump, who’s been convicted of 34 felonies and who only cares about Donald Trump. We have a candidate, but unless someone like Joe Biden decides otherwise, this is the candidate and we have to run.”
