Alleged home intruder fires pepper spray at resident. But victim has a gun, which proves far more effective.

Police say the resident noticed the suspect inside the home and grabbed a semi-automatic handgun.

The homeowner has not been arrested and has not been charged with any crimes as of Tuesday, according to KTTV.

Police said one of the suspects confronted residents and “discharged pepper spray.”

Of course, you shouldn’t bring pepper spray to a gunfight.

Police said the resident fired multiple shots, striking one suspect. The injured suspect remained at the scene until police and emergency responders arrived. Police said the second suspect fled the scene and got into a waiting vehicle.

The injured suspect was taken to a local hospital in serious but stable condition, police said. KTTV-TV reported The suspect was shot in the neck.

Police said the resident was taken to a local hospital for treatment for minor injuries, and KTTV reported that a physical altercation ensued between the homeowner and the suspects.

Police said the suspect in custody has been identified as 35-year-old Chux Chukwudi and that “investigations continue and appropriate criminal charges will be laid once medical conditions permit.”

Chukwudi has an extensive criminal history, including theft, robbery and possession of a firearm, and was recently on probation, according to KTTV.

Police said North Hollywood detectives are working to identify all other suspects involved in the incident, who are believed to be connected to other thefts in the North Hollywood area.

KTTV reported, citing sources, that the homeowner’s 56-year-old wife had left the home, leading police to believe the suspects entered through a sliding glass door, assuming the house was unoccupied.

“Yeah, it’s odd. It’s mid-afternoon,” one neighbor told KTTV. “It wasn’t the time we were expecting it. I’m interested to see how this unfolds and how it turns out. I hope everything works out for him. It doesn’t always work out that way for people who are guarding their property, especially here more than other places I think.”

The homeowner has not been arrested and has not been charged with any crimes as of Tuesday, according to KTTV.
