On CNN’s “The Source” on Thursday, Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.) said he thought President Joe Biden handled the situation well at his press conference earlier in the day, but that he still called for Biden to withdraw, saying, “We can’t be in a situation where we’re holding our breath every day, whether it’s a press conference, a debate or a rally.”
host Kaitlan Collins asked.[W]”Having listened to tonight’s press conference, listening to the questions Biden took over the course of an hour, has that changed your mind about your decision today?”
Schneider responded, “No. I think the president has done a great job, he has had a handle on the domestic and international issues, and he has stood in stark contrast to the issues facing former President Trump. But the fact is, as I said, we can’t have a situation where we’re sitting there every day holding our breath, waiting for a press conference, a debate, a rally. I think we’re in a historic moment where he can hand the baton to the next generation, unite not just the Democratic Party but the country, and not just struggle to the finish line at the end of the November election, but run to the end, win with a strong mandate, and continue this great experiment that we’ve been working on for 248 years.”
