Trump leads Biden by double digits on 3 key issues: Pew Research

Former President Donald Trump maintains his lead over President Biden following Biden’s dismal performance in last month’s debate, according to a new Pew Research Center poll.

Polls show Trump’s approval rating is currently at 44%, while Biden is trailing at 40%, but Trump has a double-digit lead over Biden on three key issues.

About 68% of respondents told Pew Research they were generally dissatisfied with the presidential election options.

The report released Thursday is the Pew Research Center’s first since Biden’s disorganized and at times incomprehensible performance in the first 2024 presidential debate.

According to the Pew Research Center, just 24% of voters rated Biden as “mentally astute,” down six points from January and a whopping 22% from October 2020. About 58% of respondents rated Trump that way.

Trump has an advantage over Biden because he has an advantage on three issues that matter to voters: immigration, the economy and foreign policy.

Trump leads Biden by 17 points (52-35%) on immigration policy, 14 points (54-40%) on economic policy and 10 points (49-39%) on foreign policy.

Biden had an eight-point advantage over Trump on bipartisanship (40-32%) and a four-point advantage on abortion issues (48-44%).

Third-party candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recorded his biggest drop in votes ever in a major poll, winning 15 percent of respondents.

The Pew survey was conducted through live interviews online and by phone from July 1 to July 7. Pew Research Center contacted 9,424 adults, of whom 7,729 were registered voters.

The group of respondents was weighted to be representative of “gender, race, ethnicity, political party, education and other factors” in the adult U.S. population. The poll has a margin of error of about 1.3 percentage points.
