AT&T said Friday that a cyberattack had compromised the data of “almost all” of its mobile phone customers and downloaded it to a third-party cloud platform.

Telecommunications giant AT&T has “taken steps” to shut down illegal access points and is working with law enforcement to track down the hackers, with at least one arrest already made, AT&T said in a statement.
“At this time, we believe that the data is not publicly available,” AT&T said in a statement.
The data included call and text records of mobile phone customers, wireless network customers and landline customers who interacted with mobile phone customers between May 2022 and October 2022. The stolen data also included a small number of customer records from January 2, 2023.
The hackers did not access any personal information like Social Security numbers or dates of birth, and the stolen data also did not contain any timestamps, meaning the hackers could see which users interacted how many times, but not when.
AT&T says names associated with specific phone numbers can often be found through publicly available online tools.
The company also said it has launched an investigation into the incident and “engaged leading cybersecurity experts to understand the nature and scope of the criminal activity.”
Meanwhile, the company continues to work with law enforcement to apprehend others involved.
The latest incident comes after the company discovered a data breach in March that exposed 73 million current and past accounts on the dark web.
AT&T has also been hit by a string of service outages, including a widespread network outage that lasted about 10 hours in February and then another in June.
